The period of Pitru paksha brings us back the memory of our loved ones, who had left us for the heavenly abode. The poet expressed his happiness upon the arrival of the departed souls to his place to accept the Tarpan (oblations). But, it pained him so much to see their pathetic condition – bony, weak, starving, and totally emaciated. Doing everything to appease them, he urged them to savour his little offerings while promising to wait eagerly for them next year.
